How to Change the Starter Motor on a Step-Through Motorcycle?

The starter motor in a step-through motorcycle consists of three main parts that work together to get the engine going. The DC series-excited motor draws power from the battery and makes the starter’s drive gear move; then, the transmission mechanism connects this drive gear with the flywheel ring gear and automatically disconnects once the engine starts running. An electromagnetic switch controls when this electrical circuit is connected or disconnected. Before your engine can run by itself, it needs an external force to start it up. This whole process of getting from being stationary to having your engine running on its own is called starting.

If you need to replace the starter motor on your step-through motorcycle, you’ll be swapping out just the starter motor assembly. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Start by taking off the left side cover of your motorcycle.

2. After removing that cover, loosen up the fixing screw on the right side of the starter motor.

3. Next, take out the fixed screw located on its left side.

4. Once those screws are off, you should be able to pull out the starter motor easily.

5. Finally, just put in your new starter motor where it belongs and you’re all set!
